Chamba state of Himachal Pradesh was known for distinctive embroidery in form of coverlets and hangings generically known as Chamba rumals.Chamba rumals were usually elaborate compositions on cotton fabrics embroidered with untwisted silk yarns in gay and harmonious colors. The distinctiveness of Chamba embroidery lies in its double satin stitch which was dorukha. The rumals were used to cover offering to deities as well as gifts on auspicious occasion. They were customary gifts during marriages and brides used to embroider the rumals with great passion for their own marriages. The website aimed to bring forth the conventional themes and designs of Chamba embroidery suggesting their usage in contemporary context. Moreover, traditional aspects of the embroidery and the subtle nuisances of the craft are incorporated in the samples made by the artisans. This would help in reassociating artisans with traditional form of craft.
